Computer Science: Culminating Project – Technology Topic Presentation | Jan 25, 2019

Our Technology Topic/Project: Software Products

Very recently, Mr. Indovina had assigned to the whole class a group presentation on one of 5 topics related to Technology. The 5 Topics were: Cyberterrorism and Hacking, Connecting To One Another (Social Media), Piracy and Cyberbullying, Hardware Components, and Software Products.

Our group: Ace, Carol, Goldie, Luke and I had all picked Software Products as our topic of the presentation. We had decided that we each group member was going to work on one part in informing our other classmates in what Software was.

I was responsible for defining Software and showing how it worked plus adding in a little historical trivia fact in there, Luke was responsible for the types of software and their differences, Ace was responsible for Operating Systems, and Carol and Goldie was responsible for providing specific examples of software someone in a specific profession or hobby.

Mostly everything went well with a little bit of miscommunication on which slide project to use as well as planning the Kahoot but everyone was fine and worked well with each other. We had also agreed that if one member felt that one of our slides were not good enough in design they were allowed to change it as long as the member who was assigned to that slide was fine with it.

The Topics

Hardware: For this presentation, we had learnt that there are many different parts of the computer and what they did and how they do it. Some of the things we learned were PSUs, GPUs, Cooling Systems, and what kind of PC builds you would need for what type of computer user you are like if you are a gamer, student or video editor.

Cyberbullying: In this presentation, we had learnt the different ways people can maliciously harm you on the internet like bullying, tracking what you search up, stealing identities, and pirating media.

Connecting: This presentation was very informative about what apps connected everyone to each other, what apps people used to entertain themselves as well as what devices enable all of these cool things to happen on the Internet. Routers, modems, file sharing, we were all provided with the info on how they worked and what they were.

Hacking: Lastly, in this presentation, we learnt of all the harmful things your computer can be put through on the Internet. Stuff like viruses, worms, and trojan horses all harmed your computer. They damaged your files, reformatted hard-drives, take up unnecessary space, and enable hackers to even take control. Speaking of hackers, we learnt the different ways they can endanger your security such as Phishing, Keystroke Logging, Spying, and Identity Theft. Finally, we had learnt that there were multiple types of hackers and that not all are bad, some even got paid to help you check if your systems were safe and ready for operations.

In conclusion, our Computer Science class was very fun and also enlightening in terms of getting to know your computer better and how it worked. These were all the topics that were presented and this project marks the end of this class. See ya later alligators!
